The first of our regional gig series kicked off on the 10th Jan in Manchester at the Night n Day cafe. There was a slight chill in the air Thursday Evening in Manchester, the streets were quiet with no one to be seen. It seemed post Christmas blues had firmly set in at the Northern Quarter, however just off Oldham Street the party was just getting started with first of the Red Stripe Music Award showcases kicking off at Night and Day Cafe.
With a large crowd packed into this intimate venue our ears were treated to the sound of the very best bands emerging from Manchester....
To start the proceedings and first to grace the stage were Islands Lost at Sea, a great band with a more mellow sound than some.....could be the next Gomez? Next up were Stolen Peace, hitting the stage with a bigger sound and some great styling. As the night progressed and the beer flowed Strategic Intent really got the crowd moving with some great songs and quirky riffs. To end a great evening on high, Eyes Wide, a three piece truly worthy of their headline status kept the crowd enthused with sound and styling some might say similar to Ian Curtis of Joy Division. All in all, an enjoyable and quality start to the award gig series. It will be interesting to see if the stakes are raised at the next gig on Thursday 17th January at The Windmill, Brixton.
Don't miss out on secret gig tickets, signed merchandise and red stripe offers
