LAST SHADOW PUPPETS SCOOP BEST NEW ACT AT The Q AWARDS with Russian Standard Vodka
Last Shadow Puppets has scooped the Best New Act award sponsored by Red Stripe at the Q Awards 2008 with Russian Standard Vodka.
The duo, a side project for Arctic Monkeys lead singer, Alex Turner, and The Rascals' Miles Kane, scooped the prize at the star-studded awards ceremony today (6 October) in London.
The band beat off competition from Fleet Foxes, Glasvegas, The Ting Tings and Vampire Weekend to win the coveted prize which was won by The Enemy last year.
Collecting the award, Alex Turner said: "I understand it's voted for by the readers [of Q Magazine] so this means a lot of course."
Red Stripe has been a long supporter of credible grass roots music, and this year became the official beer of the Q Awards. Jonny Kirkham from Red Stripe said following the awards: "We are really pleased to be supporting what is arguably the most important awards ceremony in the music industry calendar. In the past, bands such as The Thrills and Razorlight have scooped the The Best New Act award so Last Shadow Puppets are in good company. And at Red Stripe, we will of course be making sure they get plenty of beer to help them on their way."
