Accrington, a bit of northern class that has lived in the shadow of a 1980's advert for far too long. Well if Friday's Red Stripe Music Awards at The Attic are anything to go by, milk drinking scousers better brace themselves for a music onslaught.
Three talented bands battled it out at the newly refurbed Attic, which quickly filled with people hungry for some real music.
First up were the explosive GST Cardinals, who clearly thought warming up was for wimps and delivered a riotous first couple of songs. Having got everybody's attention, lead singer, Dave Sinclair, took a turn on the dancefloor with a couple of Red Stripe sipping honeys, before returning to where he belongs, fronting a band clearly going places.
Next up were some well known faces on the Accy music scene, Citizen Band. A tight 3 piece group influenced by a variety of artists from Marvin Gaye to Roy Orbison. The result? Some truly original songs. Having played in a number of different bands over the past 8 years, band members Bennett, Gibbons and Watson appear to have found their sound and will do well to stick to it.
Last up were popular Darwen based band, Outsider, who didn't fail to impress with a notably professional set of easy listening crackers. Likened to Keane and Coldplay, the future looks bright for these lads who appear finely tuned and looking forward to recording at Abbey Road Studios in the coming weeks.
Accrington clearly rocks, and not a drop of milk in sight - pass us another Red Stripe!
